Fagan’s Bill Proposes to Take Money from Children & Veterans Charities

Following Fagan recently reported on HB 2001, in which Shemia Fagan sponsors ending the charitable tax deduction, mortgage interest tax deduction, property tax deduction and a number of others that Oregon families depend on to make ends meet. Now several non-profits have made it clear that Fagan’s bill will cripple their ability to serve children and veterans. In a joint written statement, officers of The Environmental Center, Deschutes Children’s Foundation, Arts Central and MountainStar Relief Nursery pointed out that communities rely on a partnership between the private sector, government and charitable nonprofits to provide essential services. “The charitable giving deduction is not just another tax loophole – it is a critical component of that...

The Oregonian is also Following Fagan!

It seems that we’ve rattled somebody’s cage! In a blog post today, Jeff Mapes published a story about our efforts in following Salem’s most absent and troubled State Rep. Fagan calls this “negative campaigning” in the article – although we’re 20 months away from the next election. While the Legislature is in session, it’s reasonable to expect accountability from our elected officials by calling them out when they don’t show up for work, or show up unprepared. This blog is about discussing the performance of an elected official outside of the campaign cycle. And while here at ShemiaFagan.org we talk about real issues and link to supportive documents, Fagan’s “high road” approach has been to run...

Fagan goes against Sheriffs, expands unions.

Today, Shemia Fagan voted to include supervisory public safety employees in collective bargaining units. The Oregon Sheriffs Association issued this statement regarding HB2418: The new standard will force some Sheriffs to shift a historically successful command structure to comply with the new standard. Complying with this bill could be very costly to Sheriffs regardless of the size of the office. The practical problem HB 2418-A will create is mixing traditionally recognized supervisory employees into a bargaining unit where they could potentially supervise someone who also holds a leadership position in the union which could create significant issues regarding lines of authority and a clear command structure. But Fagan’s appetite for bigger government and...

As you prepare your taxes this year, take a look at all the deductions she wants to take away. Home Mortgage Interest Deduction Medical Expense Deduction Property Tax Deduction Charitable Contribution Deduction Military Pay Subtraction Contributions to the Oregon College Savings Network Consider what this would do to your family if you weren’t able to deduct your mortgage interest or medical expenses. I wonder which one is the most “misused” and...

Not a citizen? No problem!

Not a citizen? No problem!

“A lot of families in East Portland are refugee families, not actually American citizens. They deserve equal representation in the same way a big donor in the West Hills does.” – Shemia Fagan Today, Willamette Week published a “hotseat” article about Shemia Fagan which could best be described as lukewarm. The paper asked a bunch of softball questions which didn’t address her chronic absenteeism or why she wouldn’t include a prominent Senator in her plea to City Hall to restore sidewalk funding. Perhaps the most telling quote was the one where Fagan made sure to point out one of her main priorities: Giving non-citizens preferential treatment over taxpaying Oregonians. Most people would disagree – but then again, Shemia Fagan...
