The Oregonian is also Following Fagan!

It seems that we’ve rattled somebody’s cage! In a blog post today, Jeff Mapes published a story about our efforts in following Salem’s most absent and troubled State Rep. Fagan calls this “negative campaigning” in the article – although we’re 20 months away from the next election. While the Legislature is in session, it’s reasonable to expect accountability from our elected officials by calling them out when they don’t show up for work, or show up unprepared. This blog is about discussing the performance of an elected official outside of the campaign cycle. And while here at ShemiaFagan.org we talk about real issues and link to supportive documents, Fagan’s “high road” approach has been to run...

Fagan goes against Sheriffs, expands unions.

Fagan goes against Sheriffs, expands unions.

Today, Shemia Fagan voted to include supervisory public safety employees in collective bargaining units. The Oregon Sheriffs Association issued this statement regarding HB2418: The new standard will force some Sheriffs to shift a historically successful command structure to comply with the new standard. Complying with this bill could be very costly to Sheriffs regardless of the size of the office. The practical problem HB 2418-A will create is mixing traditionally recognized supervisory employees into a bargaining unit where they could potentially supervise someone who also holds a leadership position in the union which could create significant issues regarding lines of authority and a clear command structure. But Fagan’s appetite for bigger government and...

Fagan Sponsors Tax Deduction Killer

On March 8, Shemia Fagan testified in support of her bill to sunset (end) certain tax credits. She testified that “We need to do everything we can to reclaim the money Oregon is spending on ineffective and misused tax expenditures.” So what are these misused and ineffective tax deductions? As you prepare your taxes this year, take a look at all the deductions she wants to take away. Home Mortgage Interest Deduction Medical Expense Deduction Property Tax Deduction Charitable Contribution Deduction Military Pay Subtraction Contributions to the Oregon College Savings Network Consider what this would do to your family if you weren’t able to deduct your mortgage interest or medical expenses. I wonder which one is the most “misused” and...

Not a citizen? No problem!

Not a citizen? No problem!

“A lot of families in East Portland are refugee families, not actually American citizens. They deserve equal representation in the same way a big donor in the West Hills does.” – Shemia Fagan Today, Willamette Week published a “hotseat” article about Shemia Fagan which could best be described as lukewarm. The paper asked a bunch of softball questions which didn’t address her chronic absenteeism or why she wouldn’t include a prominent Senator in her plea to City Hall to restore sidewalk funding. Perhaps the most telling quote was the one where Fagan made sure to point out one of her main priorities: Giving non-citizens preferential treatment over taxpaying Oregonians. Most people would disagree – but then again, Shemia Fagan...

She’s missed how many votes?

She’s missed how many votes?

When Shemia Fagan (D) took over a good portion of House District 48 with redistricting, she certainly didn’t take with her the work ethic of former Representative Mike Schaufler (D). Schaufler served for ten years in the Oregon House and only missed one single vote the entire time. Now, with only a month of legislative service under her belt, The Oregonian reports Fagan has missed an astounding 18.87% of the floor votes! We were not able to find a single instance of a legislator with a similarly deplorable record. She claims to have taken a leave of absence from her job as a lawyer to focus on the Legislature. Then why isn’t she showing up for work? Maybe we should ask her … if only we knew how to reach her. Tweet
